When our cavoodle boy Rover gets tired during the day, he goes into his crate for a nap. We no longer close the door when we leave, but he knows it’s his private space.
This raises the question of what size crate is required for a Cavapoo breed, as well as what types of crates are available.
In this article, I’ll share some tips for making crate training a breeze, as well as three real-world recommendations of crates you should consider purchasing at the end. (Scroll down to the bottom if you just want to know what to buy.)

What size crate for a Cavapoo is suitable?
Cavapoo’s right size box is around a two-foot box, but depends on the size of the Cavapoo. Depending on the Poodle size with which the Cavalier king Charles Spaniel is blended, Cavapoos are in somewhat different sizes.
Some Cavapoos( Toy Cavoodles) need a smaller cabinet and some( Miniature Cvapoos) need a bigger cabinet, but it is necessary to select an adult cabinet, not a puppy’s body.
If possible, then it is best to wait for a fully grown adult dog, to avoid selecting the wrong crate.
When you select a crate, you do not have to consider determining what size crate for Cavapoo.
The pet parent must consider the type of cake and the type of bedding inside the cake, meaning metal or plastic.
You should also consider where the box is and how long Cavapoo is in the box.
Cavapoos are mixed dogs of a small to medium size, which mainly depend on two dogs.
The Cavapoo is one of the different poodles that can be a blending of the King of Cavaliers Charles Spaniel and Poodle.
what size crate for cavapoo in cms
To determine the appropriate crate size for a Cavapoo in centimeters (cms), you can convert the recommended crate sizes provided earlier into centimeters. Here are the approximate crate sizes for Cavapoos in centimetres:
Cavapoo Size (Weight) | Recommended Crate Size (in cm) |
---|---|
Up to 10 pounds | 61 cm (length) |
11-20 pounds | 76 cm (length) |
21-30 pounds | 91 cm (length) |
31-40 pounds | 107 cm (length) |
The Cavapoo will determine how large they are in height and weight depending on the parent they have inherited from.
Knowing that it is difficult to accurately determine the size of the box until you are fully grown.
If possible, a good idea is not to crate a puppy, for example, if the pet parent leaves the house for a couple of minutes and does not want the puppy hurt.
In most cases, a pet parent must invest in two sizes of dog boxes if the funds are available — one for a puppy and one for a fully grown adult.
The pet parents must understand two things when selecting a crate.
A crate should be large enough to turn around and stand up for the Cavapoo. This is for your health and your comfort.

Here’s a table suggesting crate sizes for Cavoodles based on their average size( In Inches)
Cavoodle Size (Weight) | Recommended Crate Size |
---|---|
Up to 10 pounds | 24″ (length) |
11-20 pounds | 30″ (length) |
21-30 pounds | 36″ (length) |
31-40 pounds | 42″ (length) |
Please note that these recommendations are approximate and may vary depending on the individual Cavoodle’s size and preferences.
It’s always a good idea to measure your specific dog’s length, height, and width to ensure the crate provides enough space for them to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably.
Is it safe to use a crate for my Cavapoo?
Yes, a crate for your Cavapoo is absolutely safe.
While some dogs, in particular Cavapoos, are just right next to their owners, it can also be helpful and safe to use to protect them.
Crates can be used to break the stresses of life emotionally, mentally or physically.
For example, when your neighbour falls in your house, your Cavapoo gets really excited. When the neighbour leaves, they’re in such trouble, so they don’t have to sit down and can’t relax, drink or eat.
Crating your dog during the time you visit the neighbour can not only control it and its behaviour, but can also give it a place to let go.
The crate can be considered to be a comfortable bedroom and bed for dogs. Crate is where we can give the Cavapoo a comfortable and happy place to relax.
There are numerous opportunities where it can be helpful for you and others in your home to create your cavapoo.
What are the benefits of a crate?
There are numerous advantages to crate training your puppy. It is a useful way to avoid accidents during toilet training because dogs naturally avoid soiling their dens.
However, keep in mind that your puppy will not be able to ‘hold on’ as long as an older dog, so make sure to give them plenty of toilet breaks.
Crate training is also a safe and practical way to limit your puppy’s chances of chewing or destroying items in the house until he or she has learned not to do so.
Crate-trained dogs can be transported calmly and safely because they are at ease in the confinement of their crate.
Besides this, the box can be a refuge and a hidden place, when life’s trials become difficult.
Whatever dog the parent is, and how old the dog is, they still need a crate to keep them safe and healthy in their entirety. A dog can easily prevent his use of a cassette as a bathroom.
How can I make my Cavapoos create a positive and happy environment?
Making the crate comfortable and relaxing is the best way to ensure that it is a positive and happy place for your Cavapoo. Prepare bedding for them to sleep on inside the crate.
Make sure they have a food or water bowl nearby, and if the door is going to be closed, make sure the bowls are inside.
It’s also a lot of fun to provide objects that smell like the pet parent, such as a recently worn shirt. Aside from that, some entertaining toys can work wonders as distractions.
It should never be used as a punishment, and they should never be punished for being inside the crate for any reason.

An Effective Tool for Behavior Training and a Personal Space for Your Dog
Reduces housebreaking time!
New World Double Door Dog Crate Kit
New World crates help with housebreaking and reducing unwanted behaviours like chewing and barking. When you use a New World crate, you give your dog a place to feel secure. You will also be taking advantage of his natural instinct to keep his home clean, therefore, when he has to “go” he will try to hold it until you can take him outside to the proper area.
Now, We also bought a soft travel crate, which we use for travel and kept in our bedroom for him to sleep until he grows up.
He prefers sleeping in this crate because it was dark and he felt safe.
It was a more intimate setting than the open metal crate. (You could use a beach blanket or a cover like this one opens in a new tab.) for the wire crate’s assistance in making it cosy)

Incorporating steel tube for strength and high-quality 600D and hex mesh for breathability, this crate is also fashionable, light, and easy to move around.
In addition to the three mesh doors on the top (front, top and side), there are also two accessory pockets on the top and side of the mattress.
Another option to consider is a nice decorative wooden crate that can also function as a side table. When space is limited, this crate’s blending function with good looks may be an option.
While I have not personally used this type of crate, we were seriously considering purchasing one.
The cost difference between the metal wire crate above, the flexibility of travelling with it, and the fact that we didn’t know how long we would need or use it was ultimately decisive.

Cavapoo crate training tips
Crate training is an important aspect of raising a well-behaved Cavapoo. Here are some crate training tips to help make the process smooth and successful:
- Start Slowly: Introduce the crate gradually, allowing your Cavapoo to explore it at their own pace. Place treats, toys, and bedding inside to create a positive association.
- Positive Reinforcement: Use treats, praise, and encouragement to reward your Cavapoo for going into the crate voluntarily. Make it a pleasant experience, associating the crate with positive things.
- Short Sessions: Begin with short periods in the crate, gradually increasing the duration over time. This helps prevent your Cavapoo from feeling anxious or stressed.
- Feeding in the Crate: Serve meals inside the crate to help your Cavapoo associate it with positive experiences. Leave the door open initially and gradually close it during mealtime.
- Gradual Closure: Once your Cavapoo is comfortable in the crate, start closing the door for short periods while you are present. Slowly increase the duration, always monitoring their comfort level.
- Alone Time: Encourage your Cavapoo to spend some time alone in the crate, even when you are home. This helps them adjust to being in the crate without feeling anxious.
- Comfort and Safety: Ensure the crate is cozy and safe, with soft bedding and appropriate ventilation. Remove any collars or tags that may get caught.
- Avoid Punishment: Never use the crate as a form of punishment. It should always be a positive and safe space for your Cavapoo.
- Gradual Freedom: Once your Cavapoo is comfortable and trustworthy in the crate, gradually increase their freedom by allowing supervised time outside the crate. Be patient and take it at their pace.
- Consistency: Establish a routine for crate training, using the crate consistently for naps, nighttime, and times when you need to leave. This helps your Cavapoo understand expectations.
Remember, every dog is different, and crate training may take time and patience. Monitor your Cavapoo’s behavior and adjust the training process accordingly. With positive reinforcement and consistency, your Cavapoo will learn to see their crate as a safe and comfortable space.
Wrapping up…
Crate training any dog can be a simple and consistent part of a pet parent’s life.
While it may appear unnecessary at times, having their own special spot in the house is an important part of their health and happiness.
When they are crate trained, the time it takes will vary from dog to dog, but in the end, peace and harmony will prevail, unless they suffer from separation anxiety, of course
